How to take a passport photo on Android
Turn off beauty mode and portrait blur, keep the 1× lens, and have someone take the photo from about 1.2 m away.
Any recent Android phone can take a passport-quality photo. Use the main rear camera, keep the default photo mode, and ask someone else to press the shutter.
Camera settings
- Use the standard Photo mode. Turn off beauty mode, face smoothing and portrait or “live focus” blur. Samsung and Xiaomi phones often switch beauty mode on by default.
- Keep the 1× lens and stand about 1.2 m away. Don't use digital zoom.
- Turn the flash off if you have daylight. Flash often causes glare on the forehead and a shadow on the wall.
Making the photo on the phone
Open the passport photo maker in Chrome, choose your document and tap “Choose a photo”. You can pick an existing photo or take a new one. Move the photo with one finger and pinch to zoom until your chin and the top of your head touch the red lines. Download the photo; it's saved to your Downloads folder.
Printing from Android
To print, download the print sheet and send it to a photo printing service or shop as a 4 × 6 in print. If you print it yourself, set the size to 4 × 6 and the scale to 100% (sometimes called “actual size”).
